and adjustment of treatment over time.

What is inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)?

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) refers mainly to ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease,
which are chronic inflammatory conditions of the digestive tract.

Symptoms may include abdominal pain, diarrhea, blood in stool, weight loss, and fatigue.
The disease course often involves periods of remission and relapse.

When consultation is recommended

Consultation may be appropriate for suspected or confirmed IBD,
ongoing symptoms, or review of current treatment.

  • Persistent diarrhea, abdominal pain, or blood in stool
  • New findings suggestive of IBD on endoscopy or imaging
  • Known ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease requiring follow-up
  • Relapse or worsening symptoms
  • Medication review or adjustment

Previous test results (endoscopy, pathology, imaging, blood tests) may be useful if available.

How we manage IBD

Management is based on disease type, activity, distribution,
and prior treatment history.

Endoscopic evaluation and other investigations may be used
to assess inflammation and guide treatment decisions when required.

Treatment is adjusted according to clinical findings and response over time.

Advanced treatment options

Additional therapies may be considered depending on disease activity
and prior treatment response.

Selection of therapy is determined based on clinical evaluation.

Follow-up and long-term care

IBD requires ongoing follow-up.
Management focuses on maintaining remission and monitoring for relapse.

Appointments are required in principle.
