Acute Assessment

What we do
Initial assessment of acute pediatric symptoms
Our role
Determine urgency and next steps
Setting
Outpatient clinic and Emergency Department

We provide acute pediatric assessment for children with sudden or concerning symptoms. The primary goal is to evaluate your child’s condition, determine urgency, and decide the most appropriate next step in care.

When to seek assessment

  • Sudden fever or worsening symptoms
  • Vomiting, diarrhoea, or poor oral intake
  • Breathing difficulty, wheezing, or persistent cough
  • Lethargy, unusual behaviour, or severe pain
  • Concerns after injury or accidental ingestion

What this assessment includes

A clinician evaluates symptoms, vital signs, and overall condition. Basic tests may be arranged when clinically indicated.

This service is intended for initial evaluation. Ongoing treatment or specialised care may be recommended at another medical institution depending on findings.

Urgent situations

If emergency stabilisation is required, care is coordinated through the Emergency Department.

If you are unsure whether your child’s condition is urgent, please contact the Emergency Department first.

Appointment

Walk-in visits are accepted in principle. For contact routes, please refer to the Pediatrics page.
